TI Selects HandEra as Newest Independent OMAP Technology Center
HandEra to Provide Palm OS Expertise for Texas Instruments’ OMAP Platform for
2.5G, 3G Mobile Phones and Wireless PDAs
Des Moines, IA -October 01, 2002. Handera today announced that
Texas Instruments (TI) has selected Handera as its newest independent
technology center for the OMAP™ processing platform (http://www.omap.com).
As an independent OMAP Technology Center, Handera will work with TI to assist
2.5G and 3G mobile handset and wireless PDA manufacturers and application
developers to bring Palm Powered solutions to market using TI’s
high-performance, power-efficient OMAP processors.
"Handera’s extensive systems integration expertise and product support for Palm
Powered mobile devices will greatly enhance TI’s capabilities to support
handset manufacturers and OMAP application developers,” said Paul Werp,
worldwide director of marketing for TI’s OMAP platform. "By working with TI,
HandEra will help Palm OS licensees and application developers to quickly
deliver compelling Palm Powered products with OMAP processors."
The Palm OS is a leading mobile operating system for handheld devices and smart
phones. PalmSource, Inc. announced in early 2002 that Palm OS 5 will be
available for TI’s OMAP platform. Its next-generation operating system will
feature an enhanced user interface that enables increased personalization,
advanced security, multimedia and wireless networking.
"We're excited about the opportunity to help deliver mobile devices based on the
OMAP platform,” said Mark Kubovich, President of HandEra. "Palm OS 5 is a real
watershed event for the industry, and OMAP platform-based solutions are going
to help set the standard of performance for 2.5G and 3G handhelds.”
HandEra has a history of delivering innovative solutions, including
industry-firsts for memory boards, expansion slots, and high-resolution
displays. Its design of the HandEra 330 earned the company recognition as a
finalist for a Technical Excellence award from PC Magazine.
Independent OMAP Technology Centers provide manufacturers and developers access
to a broad range of system expertise, including OMAP development training,
systems integration, and OMAP support products such as reference designs and
compilers. HandEra joins a growing list of technology leaders who are part of
TI's independent OMAP Technology Center network. Sixteen centers include such
companies as Wipro, BSQUARE, Productivity Systems, Inc. (PSI), Digia, Teleca
and others.
